Brake Safety Awareness Month is well underway, and we’re here with a helpful reminder: it’s time to schedule brake service at Carroll Chevrolet. Routine Chevrolet service is one of the best ways to protect your brakes and ensure your vehicle is safe and reliable.

Brake Maintenance

We typically conduct a brake inspection whenever you visit us for an oil change. This way, we can make sure that your brakes are working efficiently. We’ll also look for any unusual damage, such as leaks or cracks, to see if any repairs are necessary.

Replace Brake Components

Several brake system components have a limited lifespan. While each has a recommended timeline to replace them, your driving patterns and conditions can seriously affect their lifespan. During your brake inspections, we’ll also check your brake parts, including brake pads, fluid, and rotors. If anything is due for a replacement, we’ll replace it with genuine Chevy parts.

Look for Warning Signs

We also encourage you to watch for warning signs that your brakes aren’t functioning correctly. If you notice any of these signs, make sure to schedule a brake inspection as soon as possible:

  • You hear a grinding noise when you apply the brake pedal
  • Your brakes squeal when you come to a stop
  • Your vehicle vibrates unusually when stopping
  • You have a brake fluid leak
  • Your brake pedal feels spongy under your foot when pressed
  • Your car’s stopping time has increased

Chevrolet is building an electric future with a diverse Chevy EV lineup on the horizon. Are you wondering if an EV is for you? At Carroll Chevrolet, we’re addressing how to charge an EV to show how easy and convenient it can be.

“Portable” Charging

Level 1 charging is about as simple and convenient as possible. You can plug the 120-volt charger into any standard electrical outlet. It provides about four miles of range per hour of charging.

EV Charging at Home

Using the dual-level charge cord, you can also take advantage of Level 2 charging at home. Plugging into a 240-volt appliance outlet gives your car approximately 26 miles of range per hour.

However, if that outlet’s not located close to your EV, you’ll need to have a Level 2 home charging unit installed by a professional. Chevrolet covers the standard installation cost and permit fees for customers purchasing eligible vehicles. If yours qualifies (ask your Chevy dealer), the unit can provide up to 39 miles of range per hour, so you can conveniently charge your vehicle overnight.

EV Charging on the Go

There are over 110,000 charging points in the U.S. and Canada, making charging undeniably convenient on the go, too. Public charging stations include both Level 2 and DC Fast chargers. A DC Fast charger can provide up to 100 miles of range in just half an hour.

Energy Assist can help you plan your route taking into account your vehicle’s current charge, the weather, and your driving conditions. You can also use the myChevrolet® mobile app to pair your account with EVgo, making it easy to pay on the go.

Engine oil additives are designed to improve your vehicle’s performance and reduce wear and oil consumption. However, are they actually bad for your engine? Our Chevrolet service experts at Carroll Chevrolet are diving into all the details.

What Do Additives Do?

Additives are typically high-viscosity oils designed to enhance your oil’s formula and improve lubrication. However, this is where the gray area begins. Fuel and oil don’t necessarily need enhancements, so it’s tough to say how much they genuinely help.

Are They Bad for Your Engine?

While additives claim many benefits, measuring their effectiveness can be challenging. Long-term oil and fuel additive use masks deeper engine problems and can cause engine damage. Equally problematic, they can also mislead drivers to believe they are a replacement for the proper care your vehicle requires.

What Type of Care Does a Vehicle Need?

Your vehicle’s maintenance needs are outlined in your owner’s manual. Following this recommended schedule carefully is important to keep your vehicle running efficiently. These maintenance visits include routine oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and more.

How Can I Improve My Performance?

Routine oil changes are among the best ways to improve your vehicle’s performance. Your engine isn’t as efficient when the oil has become old and compromised, so fresh oil can help increase your power. It’s also important to rotate your tires regularly, which helps keep them at optimal tire pressure and minimizes any irregular wear.

There are so many perks to 5 Tips for First-Time EV Buyers owning a Chevrolet EV from Carroll Chevrolet. However, many buyers hesitate to buy one because they don’t understand it. These tips can help when you’re ready to buy your first electric vehicle.

Consider the Range

Range, which is how many miles you can drive on a full charge, is arguably one of the most critical factors in an electric vehicle (EV). If you do a lot of traveling and don’t have a lot of time to set aside for charging, make sure you look for a vehicle with an appropriate range.

Know Where to Charge

Range anxiety is a consideration for some EV owners. This is the fear that EV owners have about getting stranded with a dead battery. We encourage you to see the most convenient places to charge near you, and don’t forget to integrate charging stops when traveling; the myChevrolet® app can help with this.

Know Your Charging Options

There are multiple options when it comes to charging an EV. You can charge at home or public charging stations. There are also different levels of charging. Understanding the different options is essential to know which work for you.

Consider an At-Home Charging Station

Although it’s faster when you can find a Level 3 DC Fast Charger on the go, it’s more convenient and better for your EV battery to charge from home. Naturally, you must also consider the costs, including the charger, installation, and the increase in your utilities.

Look Up Local Incentives

You may be eligible for tax or utility incentives if you buy a Chevy EV. We encourage you to review your options to maximize all the savings available.

We know that pets are part of the family. Taking extra precautions when driving with them is essential for their safety and yours. There are many Chevy accessories at Carroll Chevrolet to help you protect your vehicle too.

Keep Them in the Backseat

It’s nice always to keep your pet within arm’s reach. However, for your safety, they should never ride up front. You don’t want to risk them hitting the gas or brakes or distracting you from driving.

Consider a Carrier

It’s best to keep your pet in a carrier when traveling. Ensure it’s secured so it doesn’t slide around in the vehicle or risk turning over. Otherwise, consider adding a barrier between the first and second rows, or you can utilize a harness and special pet-friendly seatbelt.

Keep the Windows Up

We know dogs love to pop their heads out of the window, but they risk getting struck by something or getting bugs or debris in their eyes or mouth. You also want to make sure they don’t try to escape.

Don’t Leave Your Pet Stranded

Pets can become very anxious if they feel abandoned and destroy your vehicle while waiting. Plus, it rapidly becomes unbearably hot in cars, so you should never leave your pet unattended.

Protect Your Cabin

Between muddy paws and all that hair, pets can make quite a mess. Consider replacing your mats with all-season mats for easy clean-up. It’s also a good idea to utilize a seat cover and cargo liner.

Order Chevy Accessories Today

As you can see, there are steps you can take to ensure your pet’s safety in your vehicle. It’s also a good idea to protect your car too. Reach out to order new Chevy accessories from Carroll Chevrolet today!

Summer is here, and for many drivers, that means more weekend getaways and road trips. Before you hit the road, we encourage you to check out these Chevrolet service tips from the experts at Carroll Chevrolet.

Check Your Tire Pressure

In the same way that cold weather deflates tires, your air pressure increases as the temperature climbs. It’s essential to check your pressure regularly. Driving on overinflated tires can cause them to wear prematurely.

Service Your Air Conditioner

While it stays pretty warm year-round in DeLand, things heat up over the summer. In fact, many drivers are done cruising with the windows down and ready to crank the A/C up. We recommend that you service your system to ensure it works optimally and meets the demand.

Replace Your Windshield Wipers

Another thing we see year-round in DeLand is rain. While replacing your windshield wipers once a year is typically recommended, that jumps to twice a year in rainy climates and now is an opportune time to do so.

Test Your Battery

Extreme temperatures can strain your battery, so it’s essential to test it before the weather gets too warm. You want to ensure it’s working optimally so you don’t end up stranded this summer.

Pack an Emergency Kit

When you’re far from home, the unexpected isn’t just inconvenient; it can be downright scary. Preparing an emergency kit for your car is important to ensure you’re ready for anything. Your kit should at least include water, jumper cables, a phone charger, and a first aid kit.

Tax Credit Changes

EV owners have been eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, which motivates drivers to help protect our planet. Now, EV owners have an income cap, and your EV must meet these criteria for you to qualify:

  • North American assembly
  • Over 50 percent of the battery’s components were manufactured in North America
  • Over 40 percent of its critical minerals were extracted or processed in North America (or a country with a free trade agreement with the US)
  • An MSRP under $55,000 (sedan) or $80,000 (SUV or truck)

Eligible Chevy EVs

With the new parameters in mind, there are still many current and upcoming Chevy vehicles that may qualify for the full $7,500 credit:

  • Chevy Blazer EV

If you own an older Chevy model or other vehicle made by General Motors and notice that OnStar® is no longer working, you’re likely wondering what happened. The bad news first: it’s no longer compatible with certain GM vehicles. The good news is that Carroll Chevrolet has a few tips to help.

OnStar and Connected Services

OnStar is designed to keep you connected anytime, anywhere. You have immediate access to emergency services whether you’re in an accident or your vehicle is stolen, even if you can’t ask for help yourself. You can also get roadside assistance, and OnStar advisors can even provide turn-by-turn directions when you need them.

Cancellation in Select Models

The OnStar and Connected Services feature is no longer compatible with select GM models. Vehicles from 2014 and earlier (and select 2015 models) are affected. This includes Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles, as well as retired brands, including Hummer, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saab, and Saturn.

Networks are No Longer Compatible

The cancellation is a result of changes in the service’s cellular network. The older GM models utilize Verizon’s 2G network to provide OnStar and Connected Services. However, with the shift to the 4G and 5G networks, these vehicles are no longer compatible.

Access Through the OnStar Guardian App

While you can no longer access OnStar services through your vehicle, you’ll still benefit from these services by utilizing the OnStar Guardian app. If you already have an OnStar Safety & Security, Essentials, or Premium plan, the app is already included. You’ll also see an automatic reduction in your monthly subscription’s cost to offset the cancellation of in-car services.

Contact Us to Learn More

If you still have questions about OnStar or the Guardian app, we’re happy to help. Contact us at Carroll Chevrolet to chat with our team, or stop in and see us today!

With the use of EVs on the rise, you may be surprised to hear that Chevrolet is discontinuing two of its well-loved models. The Chevy Bolt EUV and Chevy Bolt EV are nearing the end of their production, and we’ve got all the details at Carroll Chevrolet.

Which Models are Being Discontinued?

While both the Chevy Bolt EV (electric vehicle) and the Chevy Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle) have undergone significant changes in their relatively short lifespans, they have remained some of America’s best-selling EVs. However, General Motors (GM) has announced that both vehicles will be discontinued by the end of 2023.

Why the Cut?

The recent first-quarter reports have shown record sales for these EVs. However, a change-over to the new Ultium® battery and a host of new EVs like the Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Equinox EV, and the Chevy Silverado EV means it’s time to close one chapter and open another.

Should I Try to Get One Before They’re Gone?

Naturally, there are many factors to consider when purchasing a new car. There are many perks to an EV, which has zero carbon emissions, helping reduce your carbon footprint. The Chevy Bolt EV and EUV are also affordable and eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit.

The Chevy Bolt EV, which is America’s most affordable EV, is a five-passenger car with an EPA-estimated 259-mile range. The Chevy Bolt EUV cuts the range slightly but adds versatile cabin space, delivering 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space in all.
