Chevrolet Service Tips for Summer
Summer is here, and for many drivers, that means more weekend getaways and road trips. Before you hit the road, we encourage you to check out these Chevrolet service tips from the experts at Carroll Chevrolet.
Check Your Tire Pressure
In the same way that cold weather deflates tires, your air pressure increases as the temperature climbs. It’s essential to check your pressure regularly. Driving on overinflated tires can cause them to wear prematurely.
Service Your Air Conditioner
While it stays pretty warm year-round in DeLand, things heat up over the summer. In fact, many drivers are done cruising with the windows down and ready to crank the A/C up. We recommend that you service your system to ensure it works optimally and meets the demand.
Replace Your Windshield Wipers
Another thing we see year-round in DeLand is rain. While replacing your windshield wipers once a year is typically recommended, that jumps to twice a year in rainy climates and now is an opportune time to do so.
Test Your Battery
Extreme temperatures can strain your battery, so it’s essential to test it before the weather gets too warm. You want to ensure it’s working optimally so you don’t end up stranded this summer.
Pack an Emergency Kit
When you’re far from home, the unexpected isn’t just inconvenient; it can be downright scary. Preparing an emergency kit for your car is important to ensure you’re ready for anything. Your kit should at least include water, jumper cables, a phone charger, and a first aid kit.

How Do EV Tax Credits Work for Chevy Cars?
Naturally, EV owners already benefit by skipping gas station visits and leaving a smaller carbon footprint. But did you know there’s more? We’re highlighting the EV tax credits these fuel-efficient Chevy cars at Carroll Chevrolet come with too.
Tax Credit Changes
EV owners have been eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, which motivates drivers to help protect our planet. Now, EV owners have an income cap, and your EV must meet these criteria for you to qualify:
- North American assembly
- Over 50 percent of the battery’s components were manufactured in North America
- Over 40 percent of its critical minerals were extracted or processed in North America (or a country with a free trade agreement with the US)
- An MSRP under $55,000 (sedan) or $80,000 (SUV or truck)
Eligible Chevy EVs
With the new parameters in mind, there are still many current and upcoming Chevy vehicles that may qualify for the full $7,500 credit:
- Chevy Blazer EV
- Chevy Bolt EUV
- Chevy Bolt EV
- Chevy Equinox EV
- Chevy Silverado EV
Local Incentives
Florida does not offer EV tax credits, but there are some excellent local incentives that Florida EV owners benefit from:
- $10 monthly credit from Duke Energy for off-peak hour charging with an at-home Level 2 charger
- Up to $7 per month from Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) to charge during off-peak hours
- Rebate up to $100 from Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) for the purchase of a new EV
- Rebate up to $100 from KUA for the purchase and installation of an at-home charging station
- Rebate up to $200 from Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) for the purchase or lease of a new or pre-owned EV

GM Sunsetting OnStar® in Older Models
If you own an older Chevy model or other vehicle made by General Motors and notice that OnStar® is no longer working, you’re likely wondering what happened. The bad news first: it’s no longer compatible with certain GM vehicles. The good news is that Carroll Chevrolet has a few tips to help.
OnStar and Connected Services
OnStar is designed to keep you connected anytime, anywhere. You have immediate access to emergency services whether you’re in an accident or your vehicle is stolen, even if you can’t ask for help yourself. You can also get roadside assistance, and OnStar advisors can even provide turn-by-turn directions when you need them.
Cancellation in Select Models
The OnStar and Connected Services feature is no longer compatible with select GM models. Vehicles from 2014 and earlier (and select 2015 models) are affected. This includes Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles, as well as retired brands, including Hummer, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saab, and Saturn.
Networks are No Longer Compatible
The cancellation is a result of changes in the service’s cellular network. The older GM models utilize Verizon’s 2G network to provide OnStar and Connected Services. However, with the shift to the 4G and 5G networks, these vehicles are no longer compatible.
Access Through the OnStar Guardian App
While you can no longer access OnStar services through your vehicle, you’ll still benefit from these services by utilizing the OnStar Guardian app. If you already have an OnStar Safety & Security, Essentials, or Premium plan, the app is already included. You’ll also see an automatic reduction in your monthly subscription’s cost to offset the cancellation of in-car services.

Chevrolet Discontinuing Two Popular EVs
With the use of EVs on the rise, you may be surprised to hear that Chevrolet is discontinuing two of its well-loved models. The Chevy Bolt EUV and Chevy Bolt EV are nearing the end of their production, and we’ve got all the details at Carroll Chevrolet.
Which Models are Being Discontinued?
While both the Chevy Bolt EV (electric vehicle) and the Chevy Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle) have undergone significant changes in their relatively short lifespans, they have remained some of America’s best-selling EVs. However, General Motors (GM) has announced that both vehicles will be discontinued by the end of 2023.
Why the Cut?
The recent first-quarter reports have shown record sales for these EVs. However, a change-over to the new Ultium® battery and a host of new EVs like the Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Equinox EV, and the Chevy Silverado EV means it’s time to close one chapter and open another.
Should I Try to Get One Before They’re Gone?
Naturally, there are many factors to consider when purchasing a new car. There are many perks to an EV, which has zero carbon emissions, helping reduce your carbon footprint. The Chevy Bolt EV and EUV are also affordable and eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit.
The Chevy Bolt EV, which is America’s most affordable EV, is a five-passenger car with an EPA-estimated 259-mile range. The Chevy Bolt EUV cuts the range slightly but adds versatile cabin space, delivering 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space in all.

Chevy Trucks: Dually Pros and Cons
Have you been shopping for the biggest and beefiest Chevy trucks near me? You may be surprised to hear that looks are just one of the perks when considering a dually truck. There are also risks associated with them, though, and we’re taking a closer look at Carroll Chevrolet.
Better Traction and Control
Dually trucks, such as select Chevy Silverado 3500 models, have an extra set of rear wheels. The additional wheels give you more contact with the road, providing enhanced traction and stability, even in dirt or mud.
Increased Performance
When comparing a dually truck to standard trucks, you’ll see a noticeable performance advantage from a dually truck. The extra power is ideal (and sometimes crucial) when you need to do some serious towing.
Ideal for Hauling
Their larger (and stronger) rear axle also has impressive payload capacities. Plus, the extra wheels help you spread out the weight of your load.
Enhanced Sway Control
Even on a windy day, you’ll also have enhanced sway control when trailering. The additional safety and stability are ideal for heavy-duty towing.
Safety Risk
When it comes to cons, the biggest concern is the safety risks associated with a dually truck. While the extra wheels are ideal for traction in dry conditions, they are more likely to cause you to hydroplane on slick surfaces.
Extra Maintenance
Remember, there are two more tires to maintain and replace, meaning you’ll pay a bit more. However, most owners find that the pros outweigh the cons.

2022 CHEVY SPARK FUEL EFFICIENT FEATURES
Sometimes bigger isn’t better. We here at Starling Chevrolet want to introduce you to the 2022 Chevy Spark, a nimble hatchback with plenty of tricks up its sleeve. One big advantage to the Chevy Spark is its fuel efficiency.
Read on for an overview of the 2022 Chevy Spark’s fuel-efficient features.
An Efficient City Car
While the Chevy Spark was not designed for prolonged road trips, it is a maneuverable, efficient city car that can zip along in and out of traffic.
Running its front wheel drive power through either a five-speed manual transmission or continuously variable automatic, the Chevy Spark is an ideal economical vehicle for urbanites.
Fuel Efficiency
For city driving, the 2022 Chevy Spark comes in at 29 miles-per-gallon with its manual transmission and 30 with the automatic. On the highway, you could get up to 37 miles-per-gallon.
On a full tank of gas, the Chevy Spark can manage a range of up about 297 miles. The total fuel savings you can expect will, naturally, vary depending on where you live, but they can average over $1,000 per year.
Size of a Spark
When it comes to fuel efficiency, a major advantage of the Chevy Spark is its size. The interior is surprisingly versatile, the seats and console are of a higher quality than similar class models, but its efficient small size helps make the most of its fuel capacity.
The nine-gallon gas tank may not be a lot compared to a full-size SUV, but when you calculate the city mileage compared to gas prices, you’ll discover how much further your money will go in a Chevy Spark.

IS THE 2022 CHEVY BOLT EV FUEL EFFICIENT?
Here at Starling Chevrolet, we are committed to helping you get the most out of your money. When you’re looking to shift from a gasoline-powered car to something fully electric, you want to make sure you’re making the smartest choice.
Here’s an overview of the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV’s overall efficiency.
Compare to the Competition
First, we should ask: “Is the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV the most fuel-efficient non-luxury EV available?”
Well, no. In tests, the 2022 Chevy Bolt beat the range estimated for a single charge by the EPA by seven percent, achieving 278 miles (at a rating of 259 miles). This trails the only competing model, the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro, by just one mile.
While the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV may not be the most fuel-efficient car on the market, it certainly sits at the top of the market for EV cars.
What’s Your Cost “At the Pump?”
Determining the cost of driving EVs is quite different than analyzing how far you can go on a gallon of gas. The kilowatt-hour (kWh) is an EV unit of measurement roughly equivalent to a gallon of gasoline.
On a fully charged battery, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV has an estimated consumption rate of 28 kWh per every 100 miles. While the cost of charging an EV will depend on where you live, the cost of the electric “fuel” that runs the Chevy Bolt EV comes in far below what you would pay to fill up a gas tank.
Powerful Savings
This makes the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV an extraordinarily fuel-efficient vehicle, with the potential to save you a lot of money year over year when compared to operating a gas-powered vehicle.
